Skyfire Insurance Chairman & Group CEO

Mike was one of the four insurance industry experts who established the First Central Group of Companies in 2008. They recognised vast business opportunities presented by the emergence of price comparison websites, or aggregators, as distribution channels in the UK motor insurance market.

Then and now Mike advocates the Group’s central tenet: the drive for simplicity in a market traditionally hampered by jargon and complexity.

An alumni of Aston University, Mike is a management accountant whose distinguished insurance career spans over 20 years. Beginning at Lloyd’s and including periods at Amlin, Benfield and Zenith, he left the Lloyd’s managing agency he’d formed to establish the First Central Group.

Director and Group Chief Operating Officer

Guernsey born Simon was appointed to the board of Skyfire in June 2017. He's also FCG's Chief Operating Officer and was appointed to the Group Board in August 2016. His first quarter as COO reinforced his commitment to growing the young, vibrant and agile operation whilst protecting its operational excellence. Expert in identifying emerging trends both within and outside the insurance industry, Simon’s vision will ensure the continued success and profitability of the Group as new partnership opportunities are detected.
 
A period of travelling followed his graduation from Bristol University and his 20-year career in the finance sector subsequently began at PwC. He fulfilled various global leadership roles for Aon prior to assuming the COO’s reins at 1ST CENTRAL, including Chief Administration Officer at Aon Global Risk Consulting and Group Head of Operations at Aon Captive and Insurance Management.  A member of the ACCA since 2000, Simon achieved Fellowship in 2005.
 
Having six children and three dogs means Simon has little free time but, in his rare breaks, he enjoys the challenge and spectacular scenery of ultra trail running.

Appointed Skyfire’s Managing Director in 2017, Stuart champions the fundamental significance of data and analytics in ensuring the Group’s perpetual success. Since becoming Skyfire Insurance’s Pricing Director in 2016, Stuart has assembled a formidable team of data specialists, statisticians and analysts, all of whom share his passion for innovative analytical methods to stimulate business performance.

2012 saw Stuart join First Central Insurance Management Limited in the UK, prior to which he enjoyed a successful 20-year insurance industry career where he cultivated his transformational pricing techniques.

Director

Shaun is responsible for overseeing the capital modelling aspects of the business, as well as being  fundamental to the compliance and internal audit functions. Shaun is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), having trained as an auditor serving a wide range of clients in financial services. Shaun's  expertise in capital modelling under Solvency II has  evolved from his extensive experience in audit and before that from his Financial Mathematics degree.

Shaun holds a Company Management licence with the Gibraltar Regulator.He sits on the Executive Board and  chairs the Technical Committee of the Gibraltar Insurance Association and is also a member of the Finance Faculty of the Gibraltar Society of Accountants.

Paul Savignon MBE has been a prime mover in the Gibraltar insurance market over the last 40 years.
 
Returning to Gibraltar to join the family group of businesses, he was made Insurance Director in 1969 and Managing Director of the Insurance Brokerage subsidiary in 1975. During his business career he has pioneered the development of insurance and financial services in Gibraltar, including actively motivating the Government of Gibraltar to establish its own regulatory body, the Financial Services Commission, of which he was made a non-executive member. He was also founder chairman of the Association of Gibraltar Insurers and Managers, now the Gibraltar Insurance Association, an industry body.
 
In 1984, he amalgamated various local insurance businesses with those of the Savignon Group to form Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society (Gibraltar) Ltd (“Norwich Union (Gibraltar)”) in joint venture with Norwich Union UK.  The new company incorporated one of the principal captive management organisations on the Rock with participation of Bass plc. Paul Savignon was appointed Managing Director of Norwich Union (Gibraltar) in 1984, and resigned as Chairman and Director of the Board in 2002, 3 years after the sale of Savignon’s interest in the Company to Norwich Union UK. European Insurance Management Services, which had previously formed part of Norwich Union (Gibraltar), was retained by him and subsequently sold to Aon Insurance Managers in 2002.

Peter Yeoman, Bristolian by birth, with a career in banking that led him to Guernsey in 1993 and Gibraltar in 2000 to head up the NatWest business. After leaving NatWest Peter then went on to become Group COO, HR Director and Director of Gibraltar Insurance Manager and Tax advisory and Trust & Company manager, STM Fidecs from 2003 - 2009.

Since leaving STM Fidecs Peter has been operating as a self-employed business consultant offering professional personal and business development, coaching & training. Peter’s also the Chairman and franchisee for Gibraltar and Malta of The Academy for Chief Executives, a peer to peer development organisation.

A qualified counsellor and NED and now involved in the establishment of the Institute of Directors branch in Gibraltar.

Chris moved to Gibraltar with Norwich Union in 1987, and has accrued over 35 years of experience of most kinds of insurance operation through senior roles at insurance managers including Aon and Robus. He's been involved with 1ST Central since inception in 2008 and became a Director at Skyfire in 2011, holding an Executive position for five years before moving into his current non-executive role.
 
He's recognised for his expertise as a Chartered Insurer and also has extensive knowledge of the Gibraltar regulatory environment. Chris held the post of Chairman of the Gibraltar Insurance Association, an honorary role, for six years and remains a member of the GIA Executive Committee.

Head of Pricing

Veronica assumed the role of Skyfire Insurance’s Head of Pricing in 2017 having been its Actuarial Manager previously. Veronica expertly controls the development and monitoring of all technical risk pricing. Her skill lies in quickly identifying areas of good and poor performance, adjusting underwriting rates and rules instantly and so securing the Motor account’s profitability.

During her impressive 15-year pricing career in general insurance, Veronica has also held positions at Aviva and RSA in the UK.

Veronica is a health and fitness enthusiast and strives for constant personal improvement applying discipline and determination.

Head of Claims

James joined Skyfire Insurance in 2016 as Head of Claims with responsibility for developing and controlling the strategic direction of the Group’s claims handling procedures. A qualified solicitor since 1990, he governs the relationship with outsourced claims handling providers and ensures fulfilment of contractual obligations.

James’ legal career centred on insurance and personal injury litigation, including being appointed as Managing Partner. James has held a judicial appointment with the Traffic Penalty Tribunal since 2002, having previously also been a magistrate. James left his last firm to create a UK repair and insurance management network. He subsequently used his expertise to establish a consultancy providing operational and strategic management services to insurers and self-insured motor fleets.  

Away from work, James is a level 6 rugby union referee on London Referee Society’s Premier List and RFU qualified referee coach. He was also appointed Chairman of Gibraltar’s Referee Society in 2017.
